EMDR Therapy in San Diego

Heal from the past without having to stay stuck in it

I provide EMDR therapy in San Diego and throughout California to help individuals process trauma, painful experiences, and emotional wounds that continue to affect how they feel, think, and connect with others.

Sometimes you understand why you feel the way you do, but that understanding alone hasn't changed how your body responds. You may still feel anxious, triggered, disconnected, overwhelmed, or caught in patterns you can't seem to move beyond.

EMDR can help you process these experiences differently so the past no longer feels as present.

What Is EMDRTherapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help the brain process distressing memories and experiences that may continue to influence your emotions, beliefs, relationships, and nervous system.

Rather than relying solely on talking through an experience, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation—such as guided eye movements or tapping—while working with memories, emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations.

The goal isn't to erase what happened or forget your experiences. Instead, EMDR can help reduce the emotional intensity connected to them so you can remember the past without feeling as though you are still living in it.

What Can EMDR Help With?

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Sexual trauma or sexual assault

  • Childhood trauma

  • Relationship and attachment wounds

  • Betrayal trauma

  • Anxiety and persistent fears

  • Distressing or intrusive memories

  • Grief and loss

  • Negative beliefs about yourself

  • Shame and self-blame

  • Emotional triggers

  • Difficult experiences that continue to feel unresolved

EMDR for Trauma and Emotional Wounds

Trauma doesn't always stay in the past.

Even when you logically know that you're safe now, your nervous system may continue responding as though the threat is still present. This can show up as anxiety, hypervigilance, avoidance, difficulty trusting others, emotional numbness, shame, relationship challenges, or difficulty with intimacy.

EMDR can help your brain reprocess experiences that feel "stuck" so they become part of your story rather than something that continues to control your present.

For clients working through more complex or ongoing traumatic experiences, I may incorporate EMDR within a broader trauma-informed therapy approach.

What to Expect During EMDR Therapy

A Personalized, Trauma-Informed Approach

You don't need to have experienced one specific type of trauma to benefit from EMDR. Sometimes an accumulation of painful experiences, relationship wounds, or moments when you felt unsafe, rejected, powerless, or alone can continue to shape how you experience yourself and the world.

EMDR is not a one-size-fits-all process, and you won't be expected to immediately revisit your most painful experiences.

We begin by understanding what brings you to therapy, identifying patterns or experiences that may be contributing to how you feel today, and developing tools to help you feel grounded and supported.

When you're ready, we may identify specific memories, emotions, beliefs, or sensations to work with using EMDR.

Throughout the process, we move at a pace that feels manageable for you. You remain aware and in control during EMDR, and we can pause or adjust the process at any time.

My priority is creating an environment where you feel safe, respected, and supported throughout the work.

Healing is deeply personal. Your therapy should be too.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in trauma, intimacy, and relationships, I look beyond individual symptoms to understand how your experiences may be affecting your relationship with yourself, your body, and the people around you.

EMDR is one tool I may incorporate into our work when it fits your needs and goals. Therapy may also include exploring relationship patterns, developing greater awareness of your nervous system, strengthening coping skills, and building a greater sense of safety and connection.

Together, we'll create an approach that honors both where you've been and where you want to go.

You don't have to continue carrying the emotional weight of experiences that happened in the past.

I offer EMDR and trauma-informed therapy for adults in San Diego, Los Angeles, and throughout California via telehealth.

If you're curious about whether EMDR could be a good fit for you, we can start with a consultation and talk about what you're experiencing, what you're hoping to change, and how I may be able to support you.
